It's since modernized, but you name the IE-only feature, it had it.plugins, BHOs, controls, every single esoteric IE security setting you could think of. One of my favorite IE-only web apps in terms of sheer number of proprietary features used was a well-known reservation system's agent front end. I guess new Microsoft isn't too concerned about backward compatibility, or the danger of keeping IE accessible to users is too high? I guess Microsoft basically said, "OK folks, you get one more LTSC with IE, then we're killing it." Edge's IE mode only handles rendering/formatting quirks, so I can definitely see a lot of VMs being prepared to run whatever ancient app/site is needed.
